2015 saw the 50th Anniversary of the foundation of Otley Amateur Radio Society.
The highlight of the celebrations was an open weekend at the club over August Bank Holiday.
The home of the Society – “The Shack” at Clifton Village Hall on Newall Carr Road, Otley was to the public from 10.00 – 17.00 on both days, and a special event station, using the callsign GB5ORS, operated over the whole weekend making contacts worldwide (band conditions permitting) with M1PAC & M0SGS operating the digital modes side.
Displays depicting the history of the society together with a wealth of information about what the society does and amateur radio in general were set up around the hall, and there was also the opportunity for visitors to go “on air” and use a radio for themselves. Many OARS members were on hand throughout, to answer questions about amateur radio and the society.
